WorldSkills flag reaches Antarctica
The 46th WorldSkills Competition flag has reached Antarctica as part of a Chinese lead scientific expedition.
The 46th WorldSkills Competition flag reached Antarctica this week, as part of a Chinese lead scientific expedition on the Xuelong 2 Icebreaker, or Snow Dragon 2.
The flags of WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 and WorldSkills International, along with banners and mascots of the Competition, made the journey to symbolize a global invitation to attend the world’s greatest skills competition.
This is not the first extreme destination for the flag, which was taken by Chinese mountaineers in 2020 to the highest place on Earth – the summit of Everest.
Xuelong 2 Icebreaker has 116 team members who will carry out hydrological, meteorological, and environmental investigations in Antarctica and monitor pollutants such as microplastics and drifting garbage in the Antarctic Ocean.
