WorldSkills Champion and President join UNESCO's International Conference on transforming TVET
UNESCO is hosting the International Conference on Transforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for successful and just transitions on 7 - 8 December 2021.
The Opening Session included Yousra Assali, WorldSkills Champion who outlined, "the new future must be based on communication. We need to talk more with young people and actively involve them by giving them the microphone to speak and a chance to be part of decision making. Youth know what they want and they should be given opportunity to participate and share their voice," said Yousra Assali.
The two-day event includes global leaders in skills development discussing the challenges and new directions for TVET and deliberate on the relevance of the UNESCO Strategy for TVET’s priorities, interventions, and synergies with other organizations and institutions.
Chris Humphries, WorldSkills President explained how "nations need to raise their ambitions for the outcomes of their TVET systems and institutions towards excellence, rather than competence, and incorporate job-specific, transversal and entrepreneurial skills, encourage and support apprenticeships in the workplace, and develop resilience and the capacity to manage change."
"TVET must become a truly lifelong learning process – supporting those in work as well as those entering and returning to work, incorporating personalized learning programmes, and accreditation of prior learning," said Chris Humphries.
