Together, Samsung and WorldSkills launch the world’s largest skills competition
As 1,400 Competitors got to work, Samsung, the Official Event Presenter of WorldSkills Lyon 2024, invited guests to help launch its stand and be the first to try out some of the interactive experiences on offer for visitors.
With the excitement of the Opening Ceremony still in the air, Samsung hosted guests from the skills community to celebrate the launch of its booth. At 12:15 CEST today, Samsung’s senior leaders invited representatives from the WorldSkills Board, WorldSkills International, and the WorldSkills Champions Trust to join them in saying a few words.
The opening of the impressive, interactive Samsung stand coincided with two significant anniversaries: Samsung’s 18th year as a WorldSkills Global Partner, and WorldSkills Lyon 2024 marks the sixth time Samsung has been Overall Event Presenter. These milestones are testament to the company’s unwavering support for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) worldwide.
Chan-Shik Won, Secretary General of Samsung Skills, recognized what powerful partners the two organisations have become, saying, “The WorldSkills team has an ambitious goal, and we wholeheartedly embrace their vision. We have created a unique space, with experiences and hands-on learning opportunities that we hope will leave people with unforgettable memories and a new appreciation of Samsung technology.”
He concluded saying, “We want to pave the way for a better future, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to empowering young people. We look forward to exploring more collaborations this week, and far into the future.”
During its longstanding relationship with WorldSkills, Samsung has supported countless programmes and initiatives. But its help was particularly meaningful during the pandemic, when it stepped in and ensured that WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition could take place.
At the ceremony, Chris Humphries, President of WorldSkills, honoured Samsung and thanked them for their loyalty. He said, “Since our first Competition in partnership with Samsung in 2013 as Overall Event Presenter, Samsung explained its goal: to inspire future generations by nurturing skilled professionals. You have more than honoured this commitment. You have been instrumental in supporting this incredible generation of skilled young people we see here today. That is because Samsung always goes far beyond in their support of WorldSkills.”
Cloe Lemaréchal, WorldSkills Champions Trust representative for Europe, was also invited to share her thoughts. She expressed her gratitude for the many ways Samsung has nurtured young talent, saying, “On behalf of the all the Competitors and all the young people who benefit from WorldSkills training programmes and initiatives, I want to say thank you to the team at Samsung. Thanks to you, we can have incredible events like WorldSkills Lyon 2024. You help create a platform that shows the world how talented our generation is, and how important their skills are to future industries.”
Samsung’s dedication to skilled young people aligns perfectly with WorldSkills mission to shape the future of people, work, and industry. Samsung’s continued support not only elevates the prestige of a WorldSkills Competition but reinforces the crucial message that skills are the cornerstone of global economic progress and innovation.
