Competition Guidance
National Skills Competition, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, 2014
In a joint project, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), European Union, and WorldSkills Foundation supported the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs and Vocational Training of Côte d'Ivoire in the organization of the first National Skills Competition.
The Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs and Vocational Training in Côte d'Ivoire believes the importance of skills competitions and is convinced that this platform can effectively promote the talents of their students and vocational education to general public, various enterprises and other government authorities. Despite the aftermath of the Second Ivorian Civil War, the students still have not lost their dreams of personal fulfilment and building a better future for their country.
The success of this project has been made possible with the support from WorldSkills Members and Experts. Michel van Erkelens (NL) led a group of WorldSkills Experts who contributed their time voluntarily to participate in this project, namely, Patrick Bouvard (FR) and Luc Lagneaus (BE) for Welding, William Lacey (IE) for Bricklaying and Maup Ruijsbroek (NL) for Carpentry. In order to break through the language barrier, WorldSkills France, Skills Belgium and Skills Canada have kindly provided skill related documents in French for the training of the local Experts.
