Youth Forum 2006
WorldSkills conducted it's first ever "Youth Forum" for a select group of past competitors in Melbourne in conjunction with the General Assembly and Leaders Forum in Melbourne, Australia from May 6-11, 2006.
The 2006 Youth Forum program was sponsored and organised by the Dusseldorp Skills Forum (DSF) in cooperation with WorldSkills. DSF provided project officer, Mikaeli Costello, to manage the project and host the Youth Forum participants in Melbourne.
The Youth Forum program, conducted in parallel to the General Assembly program, provided several opportunities for interaction between the two groups of delegates, culminating with the Youth Forum presentation to the General Assembly.
Topics considered by the Youth Forum included:
- Ideas and recommendations for improving the communications from WorldSkills and between young participants before, during and after the international competition.
- How the Competitors' Village in Shizuoka 2007 can be organised to make the most of the opportunity for greater interaction and exchange between competitors.
- A youth perspective on the outcomes of the WorldSkills Helsinki strategic review and ideas for improving the competition in the future.
It was great. It was productive. It was over too quickly!
Thank you to all delegates that made this first Youth Forum a wonderful success. You stayed up late, poured your enthusiasm into the discussion topics and helped us deliver a thought provoking presentation to the General Assembly. Well done!
