WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Closing Ceremony to take place at the world-class Groupama Stadium
What does Taylor Swift have in common with our 1,400 WorldSkills Champions? They will all experience the incredible atmosphere of the Groupama Stadium in Lyon, home to hundreds of memorable music and sporting events.
The anticipation is palpable as Lyon gears up to host the 47th WorldSkills Competition. As Champions are busy preparing for their time on the global stage, plans are underway for a spectacular and memorable Closing Ceremony which will take place at the prestigious Groupama Stadium on 15 September.
The stadium has hosted a variety of major events, from football matches to music concerts since its inauguration in January 2016. At the start of June, the global sensation Taylor Swift performed at the venue to a record-breaking, sell-out crowd of 62,000 fans or “Swifties,” setting an all-time record for a female artist at the venue. In September, WorldSkills Lyon 2024 promises to set the night alight again with its unforgettable Closing Ceremony to celebrate skills excellence and international unity.
The Groupama Stadium is the third-largest arena in France and is the home of the Lyon local football team, Olympique Lyonnais. It is said that it was created with the fans in mind, and that the north and south stands were deliberately designed to maximise the singing and chants of supporters during games. These same acoustics will help create a powerful atmosphere to celebrate the achievements of so many talented young people in September.
The Closing Ceremony will, of course, feature the presentation of medals to the winning WorldSkills Champions, recognizing excellence in their respective fields. As the culmination of years of training, preparation, and intense competition, it is always a highly emotional experience for everyone involved. Competitors, Experts, dignitaries, supporters, friends, and family will all come together to mark these incredible achievements.
As well as the all-important medal giving, the final day will be celebrated with a dazzling sound and light show, and even some surprises attendees of past WorldSkills Closing Ceremonies will not be expecting. WorldSkills Lyon 2024 is planning to make the most of the stadium’s state-of-the-art technology, lighting, and large screens during the evening so that every moment is seen, felt, and heard by the Champions and guests.
Aurelia Ruetsch, Director of Operations for WorldSkills Lyon 2024 says, “Groupama Stadium is an outstanding venue, fit for what promises to be an extraordinary “finale” to WorldSkills Lyon 2024. Our Closing Ceremony is dedicated, heart and soul, to our Champions. It will honour their achievements now, as well as celebrate their unwritten future potential. We know it is a moment that stays in Champions memories forever – whether they win a medal or not – and so we promise to make it a magical and unforgettable night.”
