WorldSkills Champion Leo Rodrigues is #SkillsProud
Meet Leo Rodrigues, WorldSkills Champion, jeweler, entrepreneur, and representative on the WorldSkills Champions Trust.
To start the new year, WorldSkills is interviewing WorldSkills Champions to find out why they are #SkillsProud.
Leo Rodrigues is a WorldSkills Champion, jeweler, entrepreneur, and representative on the WorldSkills Champions Trust.
I am a jeweler and 26 years old. Jewelry came into my life when I was 16 when my dream was only to fly in a plane. The tickets were too expensive for my parents, so I looked for a job.
I applied successfully to a large jewelry company with an apprenticeship program, thinking only it was the chance to earn a lot of money and make that plane journey. Instead, I discovered my passion, and a skill I would forever be proud of.
For me, jewelry is a way to express the individuality of all those who acquire my pieces.
Each shape, each precious stone, and the colours and detail help us express our desires and communicate our dreams.
It makes me proud that through my skill I can make people happier and more dazzling when they wear one of my pieces.
As a result of my success, I have also been able to create more jobs in my community.
I love that my skills overflow and bless the lives of other people. I deeply love what I do, which is why I am #SkillsProud.
