Kyrgyzstan selects Competitors for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

Following its National Championship in April, WorldSkills Kyrgyzstan has chosen the young Competitors who will represent the country at the 48th WorldSkills Competition this September.

WorldSkills Kyrgyzstan held its third National Championship from 13 to 17 April, with students, educators, Experts, and industry partners gathering to show how far the country’s skills movement has come since it became a WorldSkills Member in 2023.

Regional winners from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across Kyrgyzstan arrived in the capital Bishkek to compete in three skill competitions: Cooking, Fashion Technology, and Welding. At the end of three intensive days, the winners in each skill were announced at a Closing Ceremony. They were:

  • Darya Asanova from Bishkek, Cooking
  • Hanifa Syrgakova from Bishkek, Fashion Technology
  • Tursunbek Asanbaev from Issyk-Kul, Welding

These Competitors will now spend the coming months undergoing a dedicated training programme before travelling to Shanghai to represent Kyrgyzstan at the 48th WorldSkills Competition. They hope to turn their personal achievement into a source of national inspiration for more young people.

The competition was a clear demonstration of how WorldSkills Kyrgyzstan has embedded WorldSkills Occupational Standards into its national TVET programmes, bringing education closer to the needs of industry. The Member used the occasion to set out its goals: to continue aligning national training with international best practice, to expand the number of skill competitions, and to build trainer capacity.

Beyond the competition floor, the event also acted as a platform for knowledge exchange. Kyrgyzstan’s Experts, educators, and industry representatives used the event to meet and share best practice, expand their networks, and discuss the future of skills training in the country.

Recognizing the importance of skills to national growth and industry, Ministers and dignitaries joined the event, including the First Deputy Minister of Education, Mukhtarbek Baymurzaev; the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Innovations, Gulzat Isamatova; and the founder of WorldSkills Kyrgyzstan, Kuvan Zhusuev.

In the Closing Ceremony, Mr Baymurzaev reflected, “This championship represents not only a competition but also an important platform for enhancing the prestige of working professions and opening up opportunities for self-realization for the youth.”

Ms Isamatova went on to build on this vision, saying, “Kyrgyzstan’s membership in WorldSkills opens new horizons for the development of vocational education and allows the country to effectively represent its interests on the global stage.”

David Hoey, CEO of WorldSkills International, celebrated the successful event, saying, “These nationals are an important signal of WorldSkills Kyrgyzstan TVET strength and ambition. In just three short years, the team has shown what can be achieved when you use our international standards and plug into the deep expertise and knowledge in our community.”
