Hong Kong, China celebrates 25 years in WorldSkills
WorldSkills Hong Kong, China organised a photo competition to mark the 25th anniversary of its membership in WorldSkills.
Hong Kong, China is celebrating not just the new year, but also the 25th anniversary of its membership in WorldSkills.
Back in 1997, Competitors from WorldSkills Hong Kong, China travelled to St Gallen in Switzerland for their first experience at the world’s greatest skills competition.
In this special year marking 25 years of memories, WorldSkills Hong Kong, China organised a photo competition to mark the occassion.
The call went out on social media for former Competitors, Delegates, and Experts to submit their favourite images from WorldSkills Competitions.
In the end, over 900 photos were judged by a panel formed by WorldSkills Hong Kong, China Secretariat, and representatives from the Standing Committee on Youth Skills Competition.
The panel picked three winners and seven merit prizes, highlighting memorable moments from a quarter of a century that included the delight of Beauty Therapy bronze medal winner Wai-Yin Lau during the Closing Ceremony of WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 and Siu-Wan Lam, who took part in Fashion Technology back in 1997.
Other photographs featured WorldSkills Competitions at Helsinki in 2005, Calgary in 2009, São Paulo in 2015, and WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
The 25th anniversary celebrations will continue throughout 2022, including a Junior Skills Competition.
Supported by the Education Bureau of HKSAR Government, the Hong Kong Junior Skills Competition (HKJSC) is the first competition of its kind in Hong Kong. It targets secondary school students and aims to promote skills and WorldSkills Competition to younger generations. It will feature seven skill competitions:
- Digital Construction
- Fashion Technology
- Graphic Design Technology
- Hairdressing
- Mobile Applications Development
- Painting & Decorating
- Restaurant Service
Competitors will receive briefings and training for the Competitions in April and May 2022. Find out more about the Hong Kong Junior Skills Competition 2022 on the WorldSkills Hong Kong, China website.
The Competition’s presentation ceremony will be held at a community event on the theme of “Future Skills for Community”. Try-a-Skill booths will promote skills excellence, while former Hong Kong, China Competitors will share their experiences with secondary school students, their parents, and industry partners.
