Abraham Mundengo is a passionate advocate for skills development and technical education in Africa. He competed at WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition in Information Network Cabling. Currently, he works as a Computer Lab Technician at Zambia University College of Technology, where he earned his diploma and is now pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, specializing in Network Administration and Technology Development.

Abraham’s interest in IT began in secondary school, where he managed his school’s computer lab, assisting students and maintaining equipment. A career counselling session with an engineer convinced him to pursue IT, leading to a scholarship from Zambia’s mining sector that funded his education.

During his studies, Abraham developed a passion for networking and cabling, actively working on his college’s infrastructure and earning a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. His skills led him to an internship, which secured his current job.

His WorldSkills journey transformed his perspective on technical excellence. The experience not only tested his skills but also opened his eyes to the global standard of technical education and industry expectations. Abraham now tries to pass on to his students the practical lessons he learned from his WorldSkills training.

He also continues to support WorldSkills Zambia’s national competitions, acting as a Workshop Manager and a mentor for future Competitors. He is also involved in preparations for WorldSkills Africa Livingstone 2025, which Zambia will be hosting.

As the WorldSkills Champions Trust representative for Africa, Abraham advocates for the integration of more apprenticeships and internships, as well as stronger industry collaboration to bridge the skills gap across the continent.
