35 of Canada’s top talent in trades and technology were invited to take onthe world at the WorldSkills London 2011 Competition

After the completion of two days of intense competition betweenapproximately 550 Competitors at the Skills Canada National Competitionheld in Waterloo, Ontario, over 150 students proudly took the podium atthe Closing Ceremony on May 23rd to receive official recognition for their outstanding performance.

Of those that excelled, 35 talented youth were invited to join Team Canada to represent our country at the WorldSkills Competition in London, United Kingdom 5-8 October 2011. Made up of 31 male and 4 female Competitors ranging in age from 15 to 21, they have been invited to take on the challenge of their lives.

The National Competition also highlighted past successes, including the attendance of several WorldSkills Champions and delegates. It was the perfect setting to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of WorldSkills International. With greetings from Mr. Terry Cooke, President of Skills/Competences Canada, Mr. Laurent Thibault, Treasurer of WorldSkills International and success stories from a Team Canada 2007 Competitor, Nathan Banke and Team Canada 2009 Competitor, Pierre-Luc Coté – it was a perfect homage to the global skills movement. In addition, a newly released documentary trailer, “Young Masters” highlighting the journey of three Canadian WorldSkills Calgary Competitors, was unveiled to those that attended the VIP Reception.
