It’s been two years since you’ve last heard from the WorldSkills Youth Forum, since we concluded a very successful 2nd forum in Vienna in September of 2008. But now we are back with a brand new team of Champions. Gathered are 29 Champions from 12 countries/regions covering 13 skill areas.

Yesterday, we welcomed them all to beautiful Kingston where WorldSkills Jamaica has done their utmost to make us all welcome in their country.

We started off with a short program which included a visit from our Board of Directors, where Tjerk Dusseldorp, President of WSI, gave a speech on the WorldSkills 2020 Vision, to set the stage for the next 4 days of intense work towards the presentation to the WorldSkills General Assembly.

To make everyone feel right at home (well, for some of us the lovely warm weather is a bit more exciting than home – we could get used to that!). We continued on with an introduction on the aims of the Youth Forum followed by ice breaker activities.

As the WorldSkills General Assembly and WorldSkills Youth Forum very luckily coincides with WorldSkills Jamaica 2010, the Jamaican National Skills Competition, we were invited to go to the Opening Ceremony. The Competitors were introduced in a parade of music, showcasing lots of excitement about the next two days of Competition.

Lots of activities have been planned to celebrate WorldSkills Jamaica 2010 – actually a whole week of activities, branded under the name ‘National Skills Competition 2010, held from October 3-10.

We are so excited to finally being here and we are confident that our very ambitious program will be met, with the help of our experts – the WorldSkills Youth Forum 2010.
