WorldSkills Russia National Competition

On 27 April the first Open WorldSkills Russia National Competition was held in Tolyatti (Samara Region). The Competition, which was held over five days, was organized by the national Member of WorldSkills International in the Russian Federation the Foundation “Education to Society” and in support of the Competition was the Ministry of Education of Russia and the Agency of Strategic Initiatives of the Russian Government.
The event proved to be a huge success, with more than 320 young people travelling from several regions to participate in the Competition within twenty-one separate skills. What was also inspiring to see was the vast number of guests and representatives including those from government, educational and public and business sectors who attended showing their unwavering support for the competitors and encouraging the importance of vocational skills.
Among these guests the Competition was attended by the President of Russia - Vladimir Putin, President of WSI - Simon Bartley, Ministry of Education - Dmitry Livanov, Vice President of Technical Affairs WSI - Stefan Praschl, Team Leader of SkillsFinland - Pekka Mattikainen and Experts from Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Iceland. In conjunction with the Competition a vast range of educational workshops and exhibitions were organised to welcome guests and allow them the opportunity to go beyond the sidelines to enjoy an interactive experience of the Competition.
The competition enabled students and future-professionals valuable experience and understanding of not only what the WorldSkills movement is about but a feel for the innovative people who make it all possible.
