WorldSkills Americas 2010, Rio de Janeiro

The first WorldSkills Americas Competition has finished. The Closing Ceremony was held Quayside in Rio de Janeiro with teams from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Suriname, USA & 2 guest competitors from The Netherlands.

The Brazilian National Competition was held in conjunction with the WS Americas Competition, meaning a total of 562 Competitors, competing in 41 official skills, spreading over an impressive 84 thousand square meters where the 55 thousand visitors could also observe various demonstration skills.

WSI held a series of meetings during the Competition, where a number of WorldSkills Delegates and Experts were present to support the event. Marcos Pontes, Brazil's first astronaut, is a WorldSkills Ambassador who attended the event. In this role he contributes greatly to inspiring and motivating young people to believe in themselves, work hard and reach for the stars.

The next WorldSkills Americas Competition will be held in Bogotá, Colombia in 2012.
