WorldSkills Lyon 2024

What's ON #1: Youth as changemakers

10 September 2024

Welcome to WorldSkills Lyon 2024! The world’s largest skills competition. Every day we will be bringing you the highlights of each day so you can make the most of the 47th WorldSkills Competition wherever you are in the world.

Our world is powered by skills, and the future of our world lies in the hands of skilled young people. They are the next generation of professionals who can help us build fairer, more sustainable societies, industries, and economies for everyone. Nowhere can this be felt more deeply than at WorldSkills Lyon 2024.

What’s been happening so far…

Lyon has been welcoming WorldSkills Competitors with open arms as they arrive for the 47th WorldSkills Competition. These talented young professionals have been exploring Eurexpo during familiarization sessions and venturing on skill-specific excursions across the city. Excitement builds as they prepare to showcase their extraordinary abilities!

One School One Country

This morning, our Competitors will be out in the local community to take part in One School, One Country, cultivating talent through education and cultural exchange. This cornerstone programme pairs competing Member countries or regions with local schools, to inspire the next generation of changemakers. This year in Lyon, 5,000 students from over 50 local schools are participating. Students are learning about the values, traditions, and culture of their adopted WorldSkills Member, while also gaining insights into the skilled careers represented at the Competition.

Press Conference

At 14:00 CEST, the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Press Conference will bring the world’s media closer to the purpose, vision, and impact of the Competition. WorldSkills France will showcase its commitment to hosting, previewing the week’s schedule, providing an overview of the 62 skill competitions, and highlighting key activities across the week.

Press will hear from the WorldSkills Board, the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 Organizer, Members, and Global Partners. It follows yesterday’s exclusive media tour guided by representatives from the WorldSkills Champions Trust, our very own youth changemakers and ambassadors for skills, where journalists were given behind-the-scenes look at the workshops before the Competition kicks off!
