Start your engines, get ready, get set... EuroSkills 2012
By Michelle Bussey, WorldSkills International
EuroSkills 2012 is at the half way point. By the middle of day two of competition, the crowds are thick and eager for a glimpse at all the skilled stars from 23 countries. With 423 Competitors, there are many to see. There are youth in every corner of this famous Formula 1 race course. The pit stops and garages are stocked full of florists, masons, designers, machinists, technicians and technologists.
With approximately 20,000 visitors on day one, today is shaping up to meet and perhaps surpass those numbers. It may be a rainy day but it isn’t holding anyone back from visiting EuroSkills 2012. Visits from the Queen of Belgium and the European Commissioner topped of the morning. They both had opportunities to tour the venue and meet with Competitors.
There are 44 skills from six sectors represented here. It is quite interesting as many of the skills are different from the WorldSkills Competition. Skills like Floor Laying, Road Construction, Wood Machining Technology, Truck Driving, Motorcycle Technology, Farrier and Hotel Reception are all different.
Stay tuned to see how this race to the finish heats up as we round the corner on the home stretch tomorrow.
