More than 25.000 visitors put their talent to work
The 5th Skills Masters was held from March 5-7, 2009 in Ahoy Rotterdam. During the three day event, a total of 25 324 students and jobseekers came to Rotterdam to find a new profession, an education or a job. At this fifth edition of Skills Masters visitors saw a wide variety of activities and competitions of craftsmanship. The visitors could experience for themselves different professions, or they could check out one of the many demonstrations and national skill competitions.
The secretary of state Van Bijsterveldt and the new Rotterdam Mayor Aboutaleb opened the event and they were both very enthusiastic.
“Our economy, our society revolves around your talent. Skills Masters is a great event. Go for it. Make sure not a scrap of talent is lost!”, said Van Bijsterveldt to the young crowd.
New Dutch Champions
About 150 candidates strived to become the best in their fields during the national finals at Skills Masters. There were very diverse competitions represented including: Caring, Blacksmith, Metal Roofing, ICT, Cross Media and Catering. The result was a great number of proud winners from across the country. Some of them are now part of Team Netherlands and will be going to the WorldSkills Competition in Calgary, Canada September 1-7, 2009.
