Shaping the future
There are as many methods of teaching and ways to educate as there are different learning styles. The most postive results are found when the student is taught by the methods that suits their learning style the best.
Students’ potential can be realized when they receive support and encouragement from those that mean the most to them. Whether it is parents, peers, coaches or teachers, these influencers become mentors in a way, so that students can develop and improve their skills to reach their personal and career goals.
On-the-job Training
On-the-job training is a very effective way of developing practical skills. That is why skilled trades use on-the-job training through Apprenticeships. Students are in real-life situations using equipment needed to complete tasks and projects. Although the student is doing the work, an experienced professional (or Journeyperson in the case of Apprenticeships) is there to guide them and demonstrate the correct methods of performing the work. On-the-job training is typically supplemented by theoretical classroom training and examinations.
Internships
Internships are a good way for students to receive on-the-job experience to determine if a certain career path is the right one for them. Many post-secondary institutions assign a portion of the curriculum to work experience. These work experience terms and internships are a good way to gain basic work environment skills, related work experience, and meet industry contacts for potential future full-time employment.
WorldSkills works with organizations around the world to support schools and teachers in developing educational training methods that give students the keys they need to shape their future.
