The third Oman Vocational Skills Competition brought together some fifty young Competitors to demonstrate their expertise across seven different disciplines.
Young men and women from seven vocational colleges in Oman took part in the Competition at Seeb Vocational College in the capital city of Muscat. They showed their talents in a variety of skills from Welding and Electronic Engineering to Air-conditioning and Refrigeration. Hairdressers and Painters and Decorators completed the skills line-up.
Oman’s new Official Delegate and Director-General of Vocational Training Harib Al-Mahrooqi, said it was a proud moment to host this Competition.
“Vocational education training is part of Oman’s economic growth, productivity, and employment outcomes. This Competition fosters skills excellence, career building, and international co-operation.”
He described the Competition as a once-in-a-lifetime experience for talented young people in Oman to demonstrate their abilities and that this would provide a stepping stone to a rewarding career.
“It’s inspiring the young generation to get passionate about new trades and embrace technologically-based careers.”
The Competition was given the official backing of the Omani government by the Under-Secretary of the country’s Ministry of Manpower and Labour Affairs Hamad Al Ameri . Her colleague Dr. Muna Al-Jardania, Under-Secretary of Technological Education and Vocational Training, toured the event and watched the young Competitors in action.
Oman now wants to use the success of this year’s Competition to increase awareness of vocational education and training and highlight the power of skills excellence, and increase collaboration with industry.
