Sustainability a central theme to EuroSkills 2025 in Denmark
EuroSkills Herning 2025, set to take place 9–13 September, will highlight how skilled workers contribute to climate action and greener solutions.

In just a few days, the Danish city of Herning will host the 9th edition of the EuroSkills Competition. With 597 Competitors from 32 countries, EuroSkills Herning 2025 will be the largest WorldSkills Europe event as well as the biggest educational event in Danish history.
Talented young, skilled professionals from across Europe will gather at the MCH Messecenter Herning from 9–13 September to compete in 38 skills across six different sectors.
The Competition will welcome around 100,000 visitors, including tens of thousands of students. Through various Try-A-Skills activities, they can learn job-related skills across a wide range of professions, and discover exciting career pathways in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
”Our vision is to reignite interest in vocational education and clarify that as a skilled professional, you can become a frontrunner in terms of our growth, welfare, and the green transition,” said Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, Chairman of the Board, EuroSkills 2025 and Former Prime Minister of Denmark.
Representatives of the WorldSkills Champions Trust, Nurit Davidowicz and Leyla Valiyeva, will attend the Competition to engage in outreach and promotional activities.
‘Skilled for a Greener Future’
Under the theme ‘Skilled for a Greener Future’, sustainability has been a key focus of EuroSkills Herning 2025. Various initiatives have helped to reduce the event’s environmental impact, as well as raise awareness of the vital role of skilled professionals in the green transition.
One such initiative is ‘The Green Mission’ – a guided experience showcasing how sustainability is embedded in vocational education. QR codes around the exhibition halls encourage visitors to explore how each skill integrates sustainable practices, such as the use of recycled materials, circular economy principles, and eco-friendly solutions.
“Vocational education must be presented in a new way, so that young visitors can experience how skilled workers are concretely engaged with climate action and greener solutions – and leave with new knowledge and inspiration that can support their educational choices,” said Henrik Kjeldsen, CEO, EuroSkills 2025.
Alongside ‘The Green Mission’, the ‘LOOP’ initiative aims to reduce material waste and ensure responsible waste management, training vocational students from across the country as volunteers to support sustainable waste practices during the event.
Ministerial meetings
Alongside the Competition, Herning will also host EU ministers responsible for vocational education and training for informal meetings to discuss the future of Europe’s skilled workforce.
The meeting is the result of a collaboration between the Danish Ministry of Children and Education and EuroSkills Herning 2025, and will take place from 11 to 12 September at the MCH Herning Congress Center – side by side with the Competition. The ministers will address strategies to make vocational education more attractive, as a way to tackle the EU’s growing skills and labour shortages, with a focus on the green and digital transitions.
“I’m really looking forward to EuroSkills coming to Denmark for the first time. It’s a major competition where we celebrate young people who are among the best in their fields – and where we showcase what can be achieved with a vocational education. It makes perfect sense to meet with my colleagues from other EU countries in connection with EuroSkills 2025, so we can discuss how to make vocational education and training even more attractive across the EU,” said Mattias Tesfaye, Minister for Children and Education.
The ministers and their delegations will also have the opportunity to visit the Competition and observe young professionals at work.
