Have a Go with the Royal Navy

The Royal Navy is delighted to bring one of her finest warships to WorldSkills London 2011. HMS BROCKLESBY is a Hunt Class Mine Countermeasures Vessel (MCMV) that has recently returned from a mission in Libya where she cleared the entrance to the port of Misrata, ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid.

This type of vessel is the largest warship ever constructed out of Glass Reinforced Plastic. Using her high definition sonar, HMS BROCKLESBY hunts for mines and then destroys them using explosives placed either by the Mine Clearance Divers or the ship’s sophisticated Mine Disposal System.

This ship has a maximum crew of 45 men and women, many of whom will be available at WorldSkills to talk about their specific jobs and the skills which they need to carry them out to the required standard.

Lieutenant Commander James Byron captains HMS BROCKLESBY.

Come and talk to us on the Royal Navy stand and Have a Go at a ship’s tour where you will be able to see for yourself how each individual’s training makes them a vital part of the crew. We look forward to welcoming you on board!

NB. The ship’s visit to WorldSkills London 2011 is subject to operational commitments and can be cancelled at short notice.
