Online skills development for countries in east Africa and the Seychelles has been enhanced through a new partnership with Vcom, China’s Guangzhou Technician College (GZTC), and the Inter-University Council of East Africa (ICCEA).

The initiative is supported by the WorldSkills Global Industry Partner, Vcom, under the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) initiated by the World Bank.

The project has already begun with GZTC hosting a TVET webinar for 160 managers, teachers, and experts from vocational colleges in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and the Seychelles.

Prior to the webinar, Dr Xiaoyan Liang, Lead Education Expert of the World Bank, San-Quei Lin, Board member of WorldSkills, and Alexander Amiri, Director of Sponsorship and Partnership, attended an online ceremony to launch the project which included the signing of an MOU between GZTC and IUCEA.

GTZC, together with Vcom and the Global Training Center, will share the experience of China’s vocational education with IUCEA members.

The initiative will promote skill development in Africa, ensuring east African colleges are benefiting from industries support of TVET training, and promote the balanced development of the international economy.
