The future of technology is endless

EmiratesSkills recently held their National Competition 14-16 April. Approximately 600 Competitors tested their skills in 24 different disciplines over two days of intense competitoin. Visitors discovered what future career possibilities looked like in action with multiple hands-on opportunities. The Competition was under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwomen of the Family Development Foundation and the Head of the General Women's Union. The Competition was held at ADNEC which is the future home of WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. WorldSkills International's President, Simon Bartley, was also on hand to observe the Competitors and lend his support to the Competition Organizers.

Many of the skills showcased during the Competition involve technology and require an understanding of how to use it to either make the job easier, use detailed calculation and diagnostics, connect networks, or to see consistent results.

We have seen exponential growth not only in the technology industry itself, but how it has integrated itself into every other type of vertical industry as well, whether it’s health care, education, or food and beverage. We have only scratched the surface when it comes to the integration of technology into our daily lives.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies identifies a list of top emerging technologies every year. The Council develops this interesting list and shares it globally to raise awareness, public understanding, and the potential of these technology breakthroughs and contribute to closing gaps in investment and regulation.

The development and release of this list aligns with the purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, observed on 17 May. According to the International Telecommunication Union, the purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies, as well as ways to bridge the digital divide.

Whether it’s body-adapted wearable electronics such as smart watches or Google Glass, or nanowire Lithium-ion batteries, this year’s list of emerging technologies will be part of our daily lives before we know it.
