Down the Aisle of Life

wsc2009_skill_31_090905_soh_049_250w.jpgWith a finish time of 14.00 on Saturday, Fashion Technology Competitors calmly stitched their way to an amazing accomplishment. Each Competitor will display a wedding gown that they have created over the past 4 days. All of the gowns have been created with a great cause in mind. The Canadian Cancer Society will be given all proceeds from auction sales on these gowns.

The silent auction had taken place from 9.00am- 16.00pm at the Competition site. Organisers had a goal to raise $5,000 with this initiative - but as of 10.00am on Saturday morning, their goal had already been reached. “I guess our new goal is $10,000 now,” said Aurora Dekker, Workshop Supervisor Assistant. “All left over fabric from the competition will be donated to local schools offering courses in Fashion Technology. Nothing will go to waste at the end of the day.

A fashion show will take place amongst WorldSkills Competitors, Delegates and staff at the farewell party after the Closing Ceremony today. Monday morning, bid winners - most likely brides-to-be - will be able to come to Stampede Park to pick up the one-of-a-kind gown they always dreamed of having, all while contributing to the promotion of skilled work, and raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Truly an initiative where everyone wins.
