Yesterday, Competitors from 51 countries/regions arrived in Calgary and were welcomed at the Competitor Village, located on the campus of SAIT Polytechnic.

The Competitor Village is accommodating this large group of visitors, providing comfortable apartment style dormitories, international meal service prepared by the culinary students of SAIT; recreation games, a gym and pool, and several fun activities for Competitors to calm their pre-Competition jitters, in the company of their team mates.

Plus, Competitors have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with each other in a non-competitive atmosphere adding to their international experience of a lifetime. Many efforts have been made by staff and volunteers of WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Ltd. to make their welcome to Canada fun and relaxing.

“SAIT is a very comfortable place to be staying. Every need can be met on campus from laundry to dietary requirements. With help from our amazing volunteers, we have been able to accommodate Competitors, and put smiles on their faces,” said Debra Stark, One School, One Country Coordinator for WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Ltd.

The Village will accommodate up to 1,000 WorldSkills Competitors and Team Leaders. From quiet retreats to team building fun, the Competitor Village provides a friendly setting for international champions of tomorrow.
