Champions Trust Members contribute to WorldSkills stand design

If you are walking through the Gallery in Cluster A, you may come across a brightly colored display stand that provides the information about the WorldSkills Champions Trust.

What you may not know is that the concept and design of the stand was developed by two current members of the Trust; Pearl So and Jacqueline Tanzer.

Pearl had just resigned from her job to start her own freelance business when the request came from WorldSkills International to collaborate on the design plan.

“It was a dream come true,” she said.

Jaqueline has worked as a freelance graphic designer for the last two years, but was also very excited to work on the project.

“It was the first time I have worked on a project with someone from very far away. We had to deal with a 6-hour time difference because I live in Austria and Pearl lives in Hong Kong.”

With the dimensions, space and general suggestions on the stand design, they gathered ideas from their fellow Champions Trust members on how they thought the Trust should be represented on the stand.

The project took three months to complete and once the design was finalized and approved they were excited to see their hard work and ideas come together in real life.

“Being a Graphic Designer I normally work on projects on a small scale, so it was amazing to see how it all came together in real life,” said Jaqueline.

Visitors are encouraged to visit the stand and chat to all the members of the Trust about their experiences and future goals.

“This is just the beginning of my freelance life,” said Pearl. “I have had such a magical time; I would definitely love to do more exhibition work.”

The WorldSkills Champions Trust is a volunteer group of past Competitors who are the voice of young people in the WorldSkills movement.

The initiative was developed by Champions for Champions at the WorldSkills Champions Forum 2014 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Their idea was to establish an advisory group to work closely throughout the year with WorldSkills.
