Building Excitement For WorldSkills São Paulo 2015

After more than two years of dreaming, planning, collaborating, and hard work, it is incredibly exciting to find ourselves mere days away from the start of WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. Anticipation is building on all fronts, and at Anhembi Park things are building - literally! The Competition is an historic event for Anhembi, one of the largest event centres in Latin America. Anhembi hosts more than 30% of the main events that take place in Brazil - including popular performers such as Jennifer Lopez, cultural icons such as the Bolshoi Ballet, and unique leaders such as the Dalai Lama. Now, the venue welcomes WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, the first-ever event to use all three parts of the Park for one event (Sambadrome, Palace, and Pavilion), and it will utilize a total of 212,000 m2.

The skills competitions will take up 60,000 m2 of space; this will be the largest WorldSkills Competition ever! Remaining space in the venue will be dedicated to making the experience of the visitor unique in terms of spaces and places for learning, engaging, connecting, and relaxing. It isn’t just “big” that makes this 43rd WorldSkills Competition better. There are innovative and integrated ways to join in the event onsite and from around the world.

For those on site

WorldSkills Connect is now active; use the online system to reach out to meet individuals with similar interests, and arrange a meeting during the Competition. Go now to www.worldskillsconnect.com to begin your introductions!

Use the official WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 app, with a map of the venue and information about skills and Competitors to guide you to areas of particular interest.

As you visit the skill competitions, 50 Knowledge Spots will incorporate the A New Look at Skills - integrating videos and 3D models to help explain what is going on in the competition and to point out what career paths are open to those who develop excellence in the skill. At each skill area, “ambassadors” - mostly teachers and students from SENAI/SENAC - will also guide you to understanding the skill and the professions related to each.

There are 29 Try-a-Skill areas you can visit to see for yourself what it takes to develop a particular skill.

The WorldSkills Village includes exhibit stands and areas for WorldSkills Members, SENAI, future WorldSkills Competition hosts, educational institutions, sponsors, and partners.

“Cyber” is a truly cool 500 m2 area with a food court and food trucks, a climbing wall, interactive activities and educational games, and space for relaxing, reading, or chatting with a fellow visitor.

If you are at the Competition 12-15 August, visit the SESI Robotics Festival and the SENAI Mobile Units in the Sambadrome.

WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 represents a tipping point in the history of WorldSkills: first time in Latin America for a flagship Competition; largest Competition in history; technology innovations to bring individuals together onsite and from afar. Over 1,150 Competitors representing 59 countries and regions will compete in 50 skills. They will enjoy approximately 90,000 meals during the event. Plus, here are a few other fast facts that are worth thinking about when you consider an event of this magnitude: To ready the venue, over 6,000 plugs and over 21 km of duct tape are used. Over 8,865 different types of items were procured to build up the skill workshops. There is over 92 km of cable used. Very important - there will be over 40 firemen and over 128 first aid personnel dedicated to keeping everyone on site safe. Perhaps the most important fast fact of all: there will be approximately 210 kg of chocolate used in Pâtisserie and Confectionery (Skill 32)! Whether you are joining us in Brazil, or sharing the experience at a distance - we are joined together in bringing the world to WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. Obrigada!
