The benefits of participation
It is no secret that many people learn and retain information better when they are exposed to first-hand practical experience. That is why it is important for youth to have the opportunity to discover as many careers in their actual environments as possible.
Job shadowing, youth apprenticeships, high school co-ops, internships, and classes on career exploration are methods of gaining hands-on, real work experience. This experience gives students insight into whether that career path is the right fit for them or not. The parents and educators whom encourage students to participate in events like this or any type of hands-on experience opportunity are providing them with the tools they need to make educated choices about their future.
WorldSkills Competitions provide valuable opportunities for visiting youth to have a go at various skilled careers. Many events hosted by Members also offer youth a chance to participate in demonstration areas or even virtual reality simulations. You can participate in an upcoming WorldSkills event near you!
Combined with knowledge about the local labour market, youth can be confident in making informed decisions about their career paths. When informed career decisions are made, they contribute to a healthier economy and a boost in labour market activity. It can be difficult and intimidating to find the up-to-date information about careers in your country or region. WorldSkills can help. With connections in industry, government and education, WorldSkills brings together all the avenues of career development and excellence. If you would like to learn more about career information in your country, reach out to your local WorldSkills Member and get connected!
