WorldSkills Leaders Forum 2010
By Michelle Bussey, Communications & Marketing Director, WSI
WorldSkills Leaders Forum
theme: Technical Vocational Education and Training: Implications for Sustainable Development
The WorldSkills Leaders Forum (WSLF) program is going to be action packed, filled with informative presentations and discussion panels.
Every year we try to improve and raise the bar with the WSLF, Calgary really set the stage and we are building on that success in Jamaica. The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in Singapore will talk about ‘A Global Perspective/Innovations for Global Leadership’. The Institute of Technical Education (ITE), the main provider of Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) in Singapore, uses the Experience ITE Programme, an innovative engagement initiative, to attract and orientate prospective students towards taking up VTE. Through extensive collaboration with secondary schools, many of whose students join ITE after graduating, ITE provides an exciting and ‘hands-on’ two-day attachment to allow prospective students to ‘experience’ the vibrant life and authentic learning at ITE. Reaching out to about 10,000 prospective students annually, the Experience ITE Programme has helped ITE in its national mandate to attract about 25% of the annual school cohort to take up VTE in ITE.
Participants will have the opportunity to hear from local leaders in education systems, private sectors and government, to see how the Caribbean is making waves in sustainable development and growth. The keynote address will be Hon. Andrew Holness – the Minister of Education for Jamaica discussing 'Implications for Sustainable Development'.
Following from the success of the youth panel in Calgary, we are bringing three WorldSkills Champions to the stage once more to give you their experience and stories. Three new faces, lots of passion, and tons of experiences all leading to three great success stories. We learn so much from hearing first-hand how WorldSkills has impacted lives and made dreams come true.
The WSLF is a key part of the overall General Assembly and National Skills Competition for Jamaica and they will have hundreds of attendees all interested in networking with the international delegates.
There are even a few surprises in the works so don’t miss out on this event, it is a must see!
