WorldSkills Calgary 2009 legacy

Competitions are done, the ceremonies are complete, and the farewell party has come and gone. The overall impression of the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 event has been positive.

“It’s been an exceptional success,” said Liam Corcoran, WorldSkills International Vice President of Technical Affairs (Ireland). “The infrastructure, tools, and equipment were first class.”

As the dismantling of the skill areas continues, materials are shipped off to local colleges, or recycling centres and crews work quickly to return the Calgary Stampede to its original condition. The whirl-wind of events has left a lasting impression on the staff of Calgary and all international visitors that leave this week.

“Skills Canada was excited to be a part of this tremendously successful event” said Shawna Bourke, Director of Communications, Skills/Competénces Canada Alberta. “We are looking forward to carrying on the legacy.”
