Rock Stars of Skill 30
Beauty Therapy made its first official appearance on the WorldSkills stage for the first time in Helsinki, 2005. Now, here in Calgary 2009 there are Competitors from 18 countries/regions competing in facial treatments, manicure services, body treatments, hair removal and different make-up techniques.
The need for professional beauty therapists has grown due to consumer demands, based on a new perspective of health, longevity, and well-being.
One treatment the Competitors in Beauty Therapy were tested on yesterday, was Hot Stone Massage Therapy. A single session of this therapy can help one to renew, relax, rebalance and revive.
Hot Stone Massage Therapy has been around for centuries, and it is now incorporated into a modern massage modality which helps to reduce muscle pain and tension, improve circulation, flush out toxins and increase vitality to provide a general feeling of balance and harmony.
Competitors place the heated stones strategically along pressure points to help melt away tension. This also encourages the mind to relax at the deepest level. Due to the deep state of relaxation this practice promotes, it has been known to cure insomnia and help symptoms of depression.
Needless to say there were 18 very lucky and relaxed models taking part in the Beauty Therapy competition on day three!
