Dear *|FNAME|*, Editorial: By Christine Scoot, Marketing & Project Coordinator, WSI This is the final issue for 2009, a year full of many great experiences and competitions around the world. In the past year you will have read articles about our two latest Global Industry Partners; Saint-Gobain Gyproc and Würth, some of the 850 Competitors’ road to the Competition via their national competitions, various initiatives leading up to WorldSkills Calgary 2009, WorldSkills TV, WorldSkills Leaders Forum, WorldSkills Connect and the WorldSkills Portal, Leipzig winning the WorldSkills Competition 2013 bid and last but not least; highlights from the 40th WorldSkills Competition in Calgary - what a fantastic year with incredible achievements. We now look towards next year which is going to be very busy but very exciting at the same time. WorldSkills International can proudly step into its 60th year of promoting excellence in vocational education and training. The anniversary will be celebrated throughout the world and of course virtually through WSI and in person in Kingston, Jamaica during our General Assembly in October. A ‘Celebration in a box’ will be made available early next year so that Members can have their own celebrations in conjunction with their events. The 3rd Youth Forum will also be conducted in Jamaica and we look forward to sharing more information with you soon. Don’t forget about the Leaders Forum which we will also tell you all about next year. But for now, enjoy the read and the holidays coming up! Together we can raise the awareness and profile of Proudly supported by WorldSkills Global Industry Partners |

By Skills/Compétences Canada After the competition, celebration, joy, friendship, fond farewells and a few tears, the skills movement lives on in Canada! “Supporting the 40th WorldSkills Competition was one more way our partners and volunteers demonstrated their commitment to the Skills Movement,” said Terry Cooke, President of Skills/Compétences Canada. “Canada is among an elite group of countries that has hosted a WorldSkills Competition twice and we will continue to shine a spotlight on the skilled labour opportunities that Canada has to offer.” |

Step by step towards a smaller footprint |

By WorldSkills International As WorldSkills International gets bigger and Competitions grow in size, we have to address the issue of sustainability. Over the last ten years WorldSkills International membership has increased by 53 percent. That is why the Sustainability Task Force was set up at the General Assembly in Shizuoka 2007 to protect the environment, reduce the environmental impact on the community, facilitate future growth, and develop best practices transferable to other skills. |
