WorldSkills Update 17.02.2009

Editorial: By Christine Scoot

Welcome to the WorldSkills International Update. The WorldSkills International Update is one of the many informational and promotional tools that we use to inform Members, partners, volunteers and the general public about the latest activities and initiatives happening throughout the world as part of the WorldSkills organisation.

After a couple of weeks’ break, the Secretariat is now busily preparing for the upcoming events and initiatives. The 40th WorldSkills Competition in Calgary, Canada is on everyone’s lips these days and WorldSkills International (WSI) is working closely together with WorldSkills Calgary 2009 to make it the best ever Competition.

From now on you will receive more frequent updates from WSI and our member countries/regions. This new format will allow us to send you news items while they are still fresh. This also means that you will receive shorter updates, with navigation options to our website to obtain more information regarding your favourite topics.

We are looking forward to yet another year full of WorldSkills activities and we will do our utmost to provide you with information through this Update but we need your assistance to make it even better.

If you have a story or a feature that you would like to share please send it to me at christine.scoot@worldskills.org. Please include 3-4 high resolution pictures to go with the article.

Together we can raise the awareness and profile of
skills throughout the world

Preparing to take on the World!
September 1-7, 2009, Calgary, Alberta - Canada

38 Canadian youth skilled in trades and technology are preparing for the biggest event of their lives! Having recently met for the second time in Montebello, Quebec, they are building team spirit and creating some essential support systems that will enable them to take on some of the challenges and stresses that they may face at the WorldSkills Competition. Skills/Compétences Canada, as the Canadian Member organisation to WorldSkills International, endeavours to provide their Competitors with valuable tools and resources to facilitate their journey and make it an experience that is constructive and meaningful.

Just like Olympic athletes, Competitors spend countless hours training in the months leading up to the WorldSkills Competition. With the help of industry leaders and/or faculty members of secondary schools, colleges or polytechnic institutes, Canadian Competitors train through practical experiences and mental conditioning towards achieving success on this world trade and technology stage.
